On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, The Voice of ECE partnered with the Start Strong PA campaign and the Black Child Development Institute of Philadelphia to host our Second Annual Advocate for Early Childhood Education Project resource table at the Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service, held at Temple University’s Pearson/McGonigle Hall.

Through this community service event, we connected families, students, and community members with opportunities to support stronger investments in early childhood education. Visitors to our table learned about the lifelong impact of high-quality early learning and were encouraged to take simple advocacy steps—such as identifying their state and local legislators and pledging to support policies that benefit young children and families.

We were honored to welcome Mayor Cherelle Parker and Senator Sharif Street, who stopped by to show their support for early childhood education and the importance of community advocacy.

Volunteers from Temple University Global Citizen helped assemble 100 giveaway bags containing hats, gloves, and socks for children and families. Craft and activity stations, including MLK crown hats, unity multicultural hand-wreath projects, and coloring books, created welcoming spaces for children while families engaged with advocacy resources.

Together, these efforts helped raise awareness, strengthen community connections, and inspire new advocates for policies that support young children and the educators who serve them.
